VOTERS REALLY DON”T LIKE TRUMP’S CORRUPTION

The Winona County DFL had a busy week at the County Fair.  A lot of people stopped by to check out our displays and to get literature about the candidates for the fall election. Kids enjoyed spinning our trivia wheel and winning candy.  Dan Wilson, our candidate for State House District 26A, and Steve Holm, who is running for State House District 20B, were there, talking to voters, as were Jason Lohmann, State Senate District 20, and Jack Hedin, State Senate District 26. Many booth visitors participated in our “Corn Poll,” which consisted of a line of Mason jars, each one labeled with an issue that we thought  might be on people’s minds. The idea was to ask visitors to “vote” for the issue they were most concerned about by placing a kernel of field corn in that particular jar.  After the fair was over, we tallied up the results; here is the breakdown of the vote tallies:

#2: (105) Lack of Affordable Housing

#3: (112) Wealth Inequality 

#4: (131) Attacks on Constitutional Rights

#5: (152)  Affordability of Basic Goods

#6  (185) Health Care Costs

#7  (223) Poor Leadership in Government

#8  (367) Corruption in Trump Administration 

Clearly everyone was concerned with health care costs and affordability of basic goods.  But it was surprising to see that the two top issues were poor leadership in government and corruption in the Trump Administration.  The latter category dwarfed all the others by an overwhelming margin.  Let’s hope that concern drives voters to the polls in record numbers this year!
