No Kings Day a Rousing Success

Despite Republican efforts to describe the No Kings protest as a “hate-America” event, Winona’s No Kings Day event was super patriotic: many American flags waved in the packed crowd, and the rally began with a recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance. Many of the signs people carried commented on the fact that America was founded as a “No-Kings” movement–a fact about which GOP figures like Minnesota’s own Representative Tom Emmer seemed oblivious.   In fact, the strongest message the No Kings” protests sent, in every one of the 50 states, was that Americans love their country and hate what the GOP’s actions have done to ruin the freedoms that we all cherish.

Two DFL candidates spoke at the event: Jake Johnson, who is running against Congressman Brad Finstad in District 1, and Dan Wilson, who is running for Aaron Repinski’s seat in District 26A of the Minnesota House (both races will take place a year from now).  Their common theme was the need to elect leaders that actually solve problems and make life better for citizens.

No GOP politicians chose to speak at the event.
