ANNUAL DFL FUNDRAISER BRUNCH OFFERS WAYS TO GET INVOLVED

We sat down with Jim and Karin Worthley to talk about the Winona County DFL Fundraiser Brunch, which will be held on Sunday, April 27, starting at 11:30 am, at the Winona Elks Lodge (4540 Service Drive on Hwy 61).  Jim serves as Chair of the Winona County DFL; Karin is on the committee that is planning the brunch.

What should people know about the event?.

“First of all, it is a fundraiser for the County DFL,” said Karin.  “It helps to pay the rent on our Winona office and to support other DFL activities.  Second, the brunch is a time to meet old friends and make new ones.  It is a time for Democrats and like-minded people to share concerns.  It is also when we get to meet candidates and hear from officials in the Party.”

“Democrats are really wanting to get together right now,” Jim Worthley added. “They want to feel there is something they can do to help make a difference.  People will have a chance to hear from Richard Carlbom, who was just elected Minnesota DFL Party Chair.  He will outline his vision for how the Democratic Party can move forward.”

Other speakers include Caitlin Nicholson (First Congressional District Chair), Nicholas Fryer (President of the Winona State College Democrats), and Michael (“Hutch”) Hutchinson, who has announced he’ll run again for Minnesota House seat 20b.

There will be plenty to eat, the Worthleys affirmed.  “This year the food will be catered by the Steak Shop,” said Karin.  “The meal includes both breakfast and lunch choices, including vegan and vegetarian options.”

The event begins at 11:30, with a social hour (a cash bar is available); lunch will start at 12:30, and the speakers will begin at 1:30. Tickets are $45.00 per person.

Get your tickets soon!  “We expect to have a lot of people coming this year, so folks should sign up early,” Jim said.  Details of the brunch will be sent via email and also will be available on the DFL website, where payment is made easy by Act Blue, a secure online payment system.  “Folks can also stop in at our downtown office during office hours [weekdays 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM, Saturdays 10 AM to noon] and pay by check or cash,” Jim added.

Jim and Karin reminded us that now is a good time to use your Political Contribution Refund (PCR).  That is a State of Minnesota program that allows you to donate up to $75 to the party of your choice; the money is then refunded by the state.  “It is basically a loan, and you will get that money back.  If you are looking for a way to get politically involved, you should start here by donating to the County DFL,” said Jim.
