I just finished listening to Vice President Harris give her concession speech and I am so proud of the campaign she and Governor Walz ran on behalf of our party and for our country.
The national outcome was devastating last night, but I am so proud that we held the line in Minnesota. In some of our most competitive and most important races, DFLers outperformed the national environment. In some of our most competitive Congressional races, we won stunning landslides that exceeded even my highest hopes. And while the national headwinds cost us some hard-fought legislative races, we denied Republicans the majority they were hoping to use to chip away at the Minnesota Miracle. The progress we have made in Minnesota will endure.
I want to thank all of you from the bottom of my heart. I saw firsthand the extraordinary work that you did under extremely challenging circumstances. I know that all of you are tired and that the prospect of staying committed to this work may feel overwhelming right now. But I’m asking all of you to choose fight over flight.
Our democracy was on the ballot on yesterday, and now we are its last line of defense. I know from all that you accomplished this year, despite incredible headwinds, that you are up to that task.
As Vice President Harris said today: “The light of America’s promise will always burn bright, as long as we never give up and as long as we keep fighting.”
After you have taken a moment to recover, let’s redouble our commitment to making Minnesota a national beacon for progress and for hope. There are so many fights ahead over the next few months, and the path to winning them runs through Minnesota. Together, we can light a path through the darkness for other states to follow.
Honored to be in this work alongside each of you,
Ken Martin
Chair of the Minnesota DFL
