Some Minnesotans are Democrats. Some are Republicans. Many Minnesotans “wait and see” every election year. This year, you have strong and clear reasons for voting Democratic:
- Being a Democratic voter means choosing hope over outrage in an era where we are groomed by media to be constantly outraged.
- Being a Democratic voter means belonging to a group of people who believe in helpfulness to all over political faction and tribalism.
- Being a Democratic voter means believing in community and shaking your neighbor’s hand, instead of sinking to the loneliness of chat rooms and sharing of media blurbs to find belonging.
- Being a Democratic voter means electing officials that are interested in making government work for the people—and not voting for Republican officials who are more interested in stopping the work of government to bolster their public attention or their Twitter feed.
Being a Democratic voter means electing capable, sincere, family-oriented Minnesotans who hold themselves accountable to voters and lend their patriot’s heart equally to the greatest, smallest, and most boring of political tasks. Democrats do this to make Minnesotans’ lives more comfortable and leave Minnesotans less vulnerable.
Being a Democratic voter means electing officials that are willing to do the “boring,” yes, boring, work of politics. The Democratic work ethic mirrors a time when politics and American institutions really worked for Americans—through partnership and compromise, not insults and election denial.
You might even say that being a Democratic voter means you are sending someone to St. Paul or Washington DC who enjoys the tedium of political bills and politics, and your Democratic representative is willing to wade through thousands of pages of legalese so that you, the voter, don’t have to. All to protect you and your family.
Be a Democratic voter this year. Be a voter who believes in hope and compromise. Be a voter who improves Minnesota. Be a voter whose vote provides the political safety and security that can keep America great. This year, be a Democratic voter.
